Situated on the Moose Jaw River in south-central Saskatchewan is the city of Moose Jaw. The people of the municipality fondly refer to themselves as Moose Javians. To the east of the city of Moose Jaw, roughly 77 kilometers away, is the capital of Saskatchewan, Regina. Regina is easily accessible via the Trans-Canada Highway, which conveniently runs right through Moose Jaw. The city is well known as being retirement and tourist friendly.

In 1857, the municipality was originally named "Moose Jaw Bone Creek" by John Palliser. There are several theories as to how the name was decided. The first theory is that, when looking at a map, the shape of the Moose Jaw River is like the jaw of a moose. The second is that the name is derived from the Plains Cree name "moscastani-sipiy", which translates to "a warm place by the river...
